A 60-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver early Friday, June 14 in Vineland, authorities said. An Asbury Park teen will spend several years in prison after admitting to raping, torturing, and killing his pet cat, authorities said. There were two fatal crashes in one day in Monroe Township, authorities said. A driver died after crashing on Wednesday, June 12 after a medical emergency, Monroe police said. The crash occurred on Applegarth Road (Route 619) in Monroe at about 10 a.m., police said. Police didn’t identify the driver pending notification of next of kin. UPDATE: A man wanted for questioning in a New York City shooting pulled out a gun in the lobby of a Woodbridge hotel and was killed in a shootout with police, authorities said. A Woodbridge police officer and a New York City homicide detective were wounded in the exchange, New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin said. Firefighters Battle 3-Alarm Blaze In Middlesex County
Two homes were heavily damaged by a three-alarm fire that started in a garage in Middlesex Borough, authorities said. On Friday, June 14, at 2:40 a.m., the Middlesex Borough Police Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 832 West Second Street. A Burlington County man was sentenced to 33 months in federal prison for illegally laundering more than $4 million in proceeds from a mail fraud scheme, authorities said. A rare type of whale was found dead on a beach in Monmouth County, marine biologists said. A 72-year-old South Jersey resident admitted that he assumed a dead man's identity to collect more than $200,000 in Social Security payments and Medicaid benefits for 14 years.
