The Hugo family's beloved home went up in flames, ruining many rooms and almost killing their two dogs, according to Miranda Hugo, whose parents live in the house.
Hugo's mother discovered the fire and when she went to save their two dogs, Maisie and Koda, the smoke was far too thick to find them, Miranda wrote on a GoFundMe page.
Though both dogs survived the fire, the Hugos were deeply scared by ordeal and are left with only fragments of a place they once felt safe in, Miranda said.
"Our dad arrived home just as Maisie was being pulled from the windows on the second floor. He was hysterical. Thirty years ago, he watched as his family home, built on the same foundation, burn to the ground before him. Yesterday, August 6th, it was happening again."
Hugo detailed that this was not the first fire at the home that her father had to endure.
The parents, who are both around 70 years old, and their two dogs, were not only displaced by the fire, but also face medical bills for the animals and the costs of damages, Miranda said.
"They are both of our greatest heroes because they soldier on - Because of what they’re still able to do together under the circumstances, and it utterly kills me to be asking for help on their behalf. But even this is not something they can do by themselves."
Miranda started the GoFundMe page to assist her parents in navigating the road ahead, which will be difficult both emotionally and financially, she said.
Her page had raised $7,200 of their $7,000 goal as of August 10.
