Stafford County Sheriff's Deputy B.M. Taylor was responding to reports of a drunk driver on Warrenton Road around 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4, when he found Austyn Atkins, 25, unconscious, behind the wheel of his still-running vehicle, Sheriff David Decatur said.

Atkins, at a nearby Wawa, noticed Taylor looking back at him as he came to, and tried snorting the rest of the drugs in the vehicle, Decatur said. Taylor detained Atkins and a search of the vehicle turned up more drugs, Decatur said.

Atkins was charged with driving under the influence and possession of controlled substances. The magistrate decided to hold him without bond after providing a brief lecture on his “gravely poor” decision.
