Jared M. Dent of Triangle died after his Toyota Yaris crossed the center line and collided with a tractor-trailer on Route 17 just south of Route 724 around 1:30 a.m., Virginia State Police said. Troopers are still investigating the crash.
Dent, who was wearing his seatbelt, died at the scene. The 64-year-old truck driver was not injured, troopers said.
Dozens of people posted memorials for Dent as news of his death spread across social media Friday afternoon.
"Another bright theatre light dimmed far too soon," one person wrote on Facebook. "... I always enjoyed chatting with you in and outside of the theatre. It would have been great to be in a show with you. Maybe in the next life. Farewell, friend. You are gone but will be remembered fondly by many. You were definitely one of the good ones on and offstage."
The Air Force veteran was a regular on stage for the Prince William Little Theatre in Manassas and The Castaways Repertory Theatre in Woodbridge. He last appeared in the play Little Theatre's "A Christmas Carol" in December, according to his About the Artist page.
"Everyone at (Prince William Little Theatre) was shocked and saddened to hear this devastating news," said little theatre president Chrissy Mastrangelo. "Jared was a very kind loving person. He was funny and talented too. He touched the hearts of everyone he worked with. Our prayers go out to his friends and family."
