Tornado Touchdown Confirmed In Leesburg, 5 More Across MD, VA, NWS Finds The National Weather Service confirmed seven tornados touched down in Maryland, West Virginia, and Virginia on Wednesday, June 5 — six of them in the DMV alone. The NWS sent four teams to cities across the region to survey storm damage and found a warm front slowly lifted northeast across the eastern Panhandle of West Virginia into northern Virginia, along with central and northeastern Maryland.  At the same time, low pressure tracked along the warm front causing severe thunderstorms and tornadoes to develop. Severe Thunderstorms, Possible Tornado, Heading To DMV Region Residents throughout the region are being cautioned that there could be some severe weather heading to Maryland and Virginia. There is an "enhanced risk" of severe thunderstorms with possible tornados forming and heavy wind gusts are expected in the DMV beginning around 3 p.m. on Monday, July 3, according to forecasters. Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms today, with some strong to severe with the greatest threat along and east of the Blue Ridge.
