Last week, on Wednesday, Jan. 25, officials say that two off-duty James City County Police officers were involved in a shooting in the City of Williamsburg that left one with multiple gunshot wounds.
The wounds were described by police as “serious but non-life-threatening.”
Michael Trenton Rusk, 24, was identified as one of the shooters, while his 38-year-old victim has not been identified. As of Monday, Jan. 30, he was still listed as an inmate at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.
It is unclear what led to the shooting.
According to an AP report, the two men had been at a restaurant before the shots rang out in a parking lot near several Williamsburg businesses.
Rusk was arrested and charged with:
- Malicious wounding;
- Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony;
- Discharging a firearm within city limits.
He has been placed on administrative leave from James City County pending the outcome of the investigation into the shooting.
“At this time, our focus and concern is supporting the affected families and the members of the James City County Police Department who have been shaken by this unfortunate incident,” officials said.
