Gas Explosion Rocks Southeast DC; Building Collapses (Updated) DC Fire and EMS personnel were busy on Thursday morning due to an active gas leak and explosion in Southeast. An alert was issued at around 10 a.m. on Jan. 18 after there was a reported gas explosion in the 1200 block of Marion Barry Avenue SE on the second floor. According to officials, by the time crews arrived to fight the fire, the area had already been evacuated due to the gas leak. One injury was reportedly wounded by flying debris. Balcony Comes Crashing Down On Car Outside DC Apartment (Photos) Disaster was averted on Sunday afternoon when a fourth-floor balcony collapsed and landed on the street in Northeast DC.  No injuries were reported on Sunday, July 2, when the balcony collapsed and landed on the rear end of a Subaru Impreza that was parked downstairs.
