A massive landfill fire raged for hours, with firefighters at the scene as early as 3 a.m. Tuesday, June 6.

The blaze broke out at a landfill in the 9900 block of Richmond Highway in Lorton, and smoke was seen over Route 1 and I-95, fire officials said.

Things were under control as of around 6 a.m., the county's fire and rescue department said.
