Man Pulls Knife On Fairfax Store Employee When Caught Shoplifting: Police

A 59-year-old homeless whose been accused of robbery in the past added to his rap sheet after he pulled a knife on a store employee while trying to shoplift, police said.

Eugene Ewing was spotted by store security at a Fairfax Home Depot at 3201 Old Leee Highway trying to steal items from a shelf just before 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 14, Fairfax city police said. When the security guard approached him, Ewing pulled out a knife, an incident report noted. After an altercation, Ewing broke free and ran out of the store.

Fairfax city officers spotted him nearby a few minutes later, but he ran off when they confronted him. Officers were able to chase him down, police said. 

Officers learned after his arrest that Ewing had outstanding warrants for robbery, possession of burglary tools, and failure to appear, the authorities said. 

Police took him to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he is being held without bail, officials said.
