Arlington resident Shan Mehmood, and Fairfax resident Eliana Ayelen Mendoza, both 19, will face possible prison time following an investigation into an overdose earlier this year.
Police say that on Tuesday, March 7, officers and paramedics were called to the 1200 block of North Scott Street in Arlington, where there was a reported medical emergency with an unresponsive man who was found in the stairwell of a building suffering from an overdose.
The man - whose name has not been disclosed - was rushed to an area hospital and died the following day. His cause of death was determined to be acute fentanyl intoxication, according to the Chief Medical Examiner.
Investigators determined that Mehmood supplied the drugs that led to the fatal overdose, and when he was apprehended, he was busted with drugs and a weapon was seized.
Mendoza was implicated in the incident after the fact.
Mehmood was charged with:
- Involuntary manslaughter;
- Distribution of fentanyl;
- Possession with the intent to distribute fentanyl;
- Possession of a firearm while possessing fentanyl with the intent to distribute.
He is being held at the Arlington County Detention Facility without bond.
Mendoza was charged with accessory after the fact to manslaughter and released after posting bond.
No information about court dates for either has been announced by the police. The overdose remains under investigation.
