New Rabies Alert Issued After Raccoon Tests Positive For Virus Near Virginia Park
A new alert has been issued by the Alexandria Health Department advising that a raccoon tested positive for rabies after being collected near an area park. On Friday, Nov. 15, officials say that a raccoon came into contact with several dogs in the yard of a home in Alexandria near Chambliss Park. The raccoon is dead, the dogs have been isolated, but there is an increased risk in the area, health officials are cautioning. Arlington County Animal Control was called to I-395 to remove a dead bear from the roadway over the weekend, authorities said. The bear was spotted near Exit 8C around 2:10 p.m. Saturday, June 15, Virginia State Police spokesman Matthew Demlein said. At 5:48 p.m., a passing motorist said he'd struck the bear but did not stop because he was feeling ill. He was not injured. Bunnies Blasted By Blow Darts Under Investigation In Arlington
The search is on for the psychos who have been targeting rabbits with blow darts and projectiles in Arlington. The Animal Welfare League of Arlington issued an alert on Monday, April 10 advising that at least two bunnies were found in the 700 and 800 blocks of North Barton Street earlier this month with what appears to be blow darts stuck to their body.
