A 55-year-old Virginia man died during an attempt to hike across the Grand Canyon in Arizona. Ranjith Varma of Manassas, set out on Saturday, Sept. 9 to make the 24-mile "Rim-To-Rim" trek in a single day, the National Park Service said. A missing 75-year-old man was found alive Saturday, Sept. 2, after a search of Shenandoah National Park. Jerry Bailey, 75, of Tennessee, was reported missing to Shenandoah National Park Rangers early Sept. 1. His backpack was found in Pinefield Hut off Skyline Drive near mile 75.2. Bailey was found by searchers at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday, in the southern part of the park near Ivy Creek (mile 77.5). Shenandoah activated a full-scale search operation early today.
