Metro Station Evacuated For Smoke On Platform In Southeast DC (Updated) Some Metro riders in Southeast DC got a scare on Thursday afternoon after first responders evacuated a station and temporarily suspended service due to smoky conditions caused by a fire. Shortly after 1 p.m. on Feb. 15, DC Fire and EMS personnel reported that they were called to the Eastern Market Metro station, where there was smoke on the platform, officials say. At app 12:50p, the operator Silver Line train 638 at Eastern Market reported an "explosion" on their train, and resulting heavy smoke. Metro Train Derails Near Reagan Airport With 50 Passengers On Board Some travelers were left in a lurch on Friday morning when a train derailed near Reagan National Airport.  Service was suspended temporarily on the Blue and Yellow lines on Friday, Sept. 29 as officials investigated a derailment that impacted at least 50 passengers who were on board at the time. According to WMATA, the incident happened around 10 a.m. resulting in trains being shut down between Potomac Yard and the airport.
