Joyce Scott Heads To Prison For $150K Embezzlement Scheme
A minister who was the former head of a non-profit organization in Southeast DC is heading to prison taking from the poor and giving to her self while embezzling more than $150,000 from its coffers, federal authorities announced. Rowena Joyce Scott, 71, was sentenced this week to 18 months in prison for a scheme to steal money from a corporation she was entrusted to run which was created to aid some of the District's economically-challenged residents. Alexandria's Joe McKenna Dies, 40
Alexandria resident Joseph McKenna died on May 3. He was 40 years old. His loved ones penned a heartfelt obituary published to the Everly Wheatley Funeral Home website, remembering him as a "gifted storyteller and natural comedian," who was passionate about his job in construction, particularly affordable housing projects. Joe studied music theory, liberal arts, and humanities at Northern Virginia Community College, but later earned his bachelor's degree in business administration and management from Strayer University, his obit reads. Amazon Funds $150 Million Affordable Housing Project In Washington DC
Amazon is partnering up with D.C. developers to build over 1,200 affordable housing units — a nearly $150 million project. Half of the units will be for low-income families and many of them will be located in close proximity to a metro station. New Library, Affordable Apartments Could Be On Horizon In Reston
Developer Foulger-Pratt may be able to move forward with their proposal for a brand new Reston library and affordable apartment units, FFXnow reported. In October 2021, Foulger-Pratt submitted an unsolicited proposal to the county government with potential plans for a new 40,000-square-foot library, along with about 350 affordable housing units in two buildings with structured parking, the website said.
