DC Fire and EMS personnel were called to the 3900 block of 7th Street NW late on Sunday afternoon, where a fire broke out in the second floor of an area home and rapidly spread.

Crews were able to corral the flames and get the fire under control, but not before it left five adults and two children displaced, who are now being assisted by the Red Cross.

The family was able to escape safely, though one firefighter suffered an elbow injury battling the blaze.

Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire.
