The incident happened around 7:06 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, at the Ford T. Humphrey Public Safety Building in Stafford County, according to a Stafford County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson.
Deputies responded after receiving reports that a woman had attacked two people during a custody exchange at the designated Safe Exchange Zone, an area meant to provide a secure space for such meetings.
The suspect, a 27-year-old Fredericksburg woman, was arrested and charged with two counts of assault and battery, officials said.
She was taken to the Rappahannock Regional Jail, where she is being held on a $1,000 bond, authorities said.
The Safe Exchange Zone, located in the sheriff’s office parking lot, was created for parents to conduct custody exchanges and for buyers and sellers to complete online transactions in a secure environment, the department noted.
