Major Storm Headed To East Coast: Here's Wintry Mix, Accumulating Snow Map There is increasing confidence that a massive storm headed toward the East Coast will bring accumulating snowfall in areas of the Northeast farther south and a mix of sleet and snow farther north. The system will move through the Midwest over the weekend before arriving in much of the Northeast on Monday, Jan. 6, according to the National Weather Service. Major hubs in the storm’s path for potential snow and ice include New York City, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Baltimore. (See the first image above.) Severe Thunderstorms May Bring Ping Pong-Sized Hail, 70 MPH Wind Gusts To DMV Region A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for parts of the DMV region as wicked weather is expected to roll through the region, forecasters are cautioning. Following a sweltering day, the National Weather Service is advising that parts of DC, Maryland, and Virginia may be subject to storms that may bring whipping winds approaching 70 mph and ping pong-sized hail to some areas.
