Dylan Lester, 28, is facing a lengthy recovery after being involved in an early morning crash on Saturday, Nov. 16, that claimed the life of his best friend, 25-year-old Manassas resident Patrick Ledoux.
The pair were heading south on I-95 on the morning of the crash, state police said, when they were struck by a 2018 Volvo XC90 head-on that was driving in the wrong direction.
The driver was charged with involuntary manslaughter and other offenses following the fatal crash.
Now, the community is mourning Ledoux and rallying support for Lester and his family as he begins his the road to recovery.
"Dylan is now facing a long and painful road to recovery, both physically and emotionally," Grace Lester said. "While he works to heal from his injuries, he is also mourning the profound loss of his best friend.
"Patrick was a key soul in Dylan’s walk of life, and a significant member of Dylan’s chosen family. This is a loss that is beyond comprehension."
In the days following his death, more than $10,000 has been raised in 48 hours through a GoFundMe set up to "help ease the financial burden on Dylan during this difficult time."
"The funds raised will go toward his medical expenses, physical therapy, counseling, and any other needs as he navigates life after this tragedy.
"No one should have to face this kind of loss and hardship alone."
The GoFundMe can be found here.
"Words cannot describe how thankful we are for each person who has donated, shared, prayed, and thought about Dylan and Patrick," Lester's brother and sister-in-law said on Friday. "We are floored at the outpouring of support and love.
"Dylan is home from the hospital now, and is starting the long road to recovery," they continued. "Your support is making this entire process significantly easier."
