Bill Courtney, a respected Division I college basketball coach and current assistant at Temple University, died suddenly at age 55, the school announced on Tuesday, Jan. 13.
Courtney’s unexpected death has left the college basketball world in shock, with tributes pouring in from across the country.
Born in Alexandria, Virginia, Courtney played collegiately at Bucknell before launching a coaching career that spanned more than three decades. He joined Temple’s staff in June and quickly became a valued member of the Owls’ program.

A longtime Maryland softball coach is behind bars after being arrested on child sex abuse charges, authorities announced.
Detectives with the Baltimore County Police Department’s Crimes Against Children Unit arrested 59-year-old Michael J. Pusateri on a warrant charging him with rape, assault, sex abuse of a minor, and soliciting child pornography, officials said Tuesday, Sept. 9.
Pusateri, of Baltimore County, has an extensive background in coaching, officials said.

A Maryland man who was driving nearly double the speed limit when he slammed into another car, killing a popular youth football coach and father of three, has been sentenced to jail time, prosecutors announced.
William John Sternhagen, 63, of Severna Park, pleaded guilty to negligent manslaughter and reckless driving in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court on Tuesday, June 10, officials said.
