The 61-year-old school administrator, widow, and proud grandmother from Rockville, MD got engaged on the thrilling season finale of "The Golden Bachelorette," which aired Wednesday evening, Nov. 13. Joan lost her husband to cancer after 32 years of marriage.
Joan, who made history as ABC's first-ever senior Bachelorette, captured hearts across the nation with her warmth, wisdom, and willingness to take a second chance on love.
Audiences watched her journey unfold, and in a moment that fans won’t soon forget, she said “yes” to her final rose pick in a heartwarming proposal that capped off the season.
Joan narrowed the 24 suitors down to just two, who joined her in Bora Bora for the finale: Guy, 66, an emergency medicine doctor from Reno, NV, and Chock, 60, an insurance executive from Wichita, KS.
Joan ultimately ended things with Guy in Bora Bora, saying her heart belonged to someone else. That someone else (Chock) dropped to one knee and asked Joan for his hand in marriage.
"Of course, I'll marry you!" Joan says before handing Chock the final golden rose.
Chock and his wife of 12 years divorced before he met his new love. She died of brain cancer after approximately a decade together.
As the leading lady of "The Golden Bachelorette," Joan has become a symbol of timeless love and new beginnings, proving that it’s never too late to find true love.
