A sheriff's deputy who was once outrun by a reckless driver in Virginia got the last laugh—this time he was caught with drugs, a gun, and no license, authorities said.

Deputy R. Tully had a familiar feeling when he spotted a black Dodge Challenger speeding down Richmond Highway on Tuesday, April 8, in Stafford.

According to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office, it was the exact same car — and driver — he pursued months earlier.

Back on Nov. 18, 2024, at around 10:25 a.m., the deputy attempted a traffic stop outside the Wawa on Richmond Highway after spotting the Dodge with tinted windows and no front plate, driving recklessly.

The driver sped off toward I-95, and due to heavy traffic and the danger to other drivers, Tully made the call to end the chase.

That wasn’t the end of it.

“Since then, Deputy Tully has been working on collecting evidence and information regarding the suspect so charges could be obtained when he was identified,” the agency said. “His hard work would eventually pay off.”

Nearly five months later, shortly after 1:30 p.m. on April 8, Tully was patrolling the area of Richmond Highway and Garrisonville Road when the same Challenger drove by.

Once again, the driver hit the gas — launching into what a sheriff's spokesperson dubbed: "Pursuit: The Sequel."

The suspect cut through a 7-Eleven parking lot and pulled into the Staybridge Suites, but refused to stop or follow commands until deputies surrounded the car and boxed it in before removing the driver.

The man was identified as Gloree Belchie, 25, of Dumfries.

“Despite stopping, the driver refused to put the vehicle in park and had his foot on the brake,” the sheriff’s office said. “Deputy Tully remained in his cruiser as additional deputies arrived in the event of a pursuit part three.”

Deputies say Belchie was caught with a firearm, suspected controlled substances, and had no driver’s license.

He was charged with:

  • Two counts of felony eluding;
  • Possession with intent to distribute controlled substances;
  • Possession of a firearm while in possession of controlled substances;
  • Obstruction of justice;
  • Reckless driving;
  • Improper display of a license plate;
  • Illegal window tint;
  • Expired inspection sticker;
  • Driving without a license.

Belchie was booked at the Rappahannock Regional Jail and held without bond.

Officials praised Tully for his persistence.
