An 18-year-old is dead after being pulled unconscious from the water off Assateague Island National Seashore in Virginia, authorities confirmed. The teen was swimming near the southern end of the Chincoteague Beach Parking Lot around 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, when he and another person began struggling offshore, according to the National Park Service. A Jersey Shore lifeguard was rushed to the hospital after being impaled by a beach umbrella stake on Wednesday, June 25, fire officials confirm.
