‘Poop Water’ Hits Prime Time As Colbert Takes On Potomac Sewage Spill After Week Of DMV Chaos
After a week of frozen pipes, emergency pumps, environmental warnings, and tens of millions of gallons of sewage spilling into the Potomac River, the crisis officially crossed into a new phase Wednesday night.
It made it to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
Colbert devoted part of his monologue to the ongoing sewage overflow impacting Maryland, DC, and Virginia, joking that a “small geyser of poop water is flooding into the Potomac River,” a line he credited to “Little Richie Dom, age eight,” before pausing for applause and taking a theatrical bow.

A traffic stop on the Capital Beltway nearly turned deadly when a Maryland State Trooper was struck by a suspected drunk driver, authorities said.
The incident happened shortly after 12:45 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, on the inner loop of I-495 near Route 1 in College Park, according to Maryland State Police.

A Maryland woman and a DC man are dead after a wrong-way crash on the Capital Beltway in Northern Virginia, Virginia State Police announced.
Tremayne Gross, 24, of Washington, DC, and Meghan Elizabeth Mathis, 32, of Westminster, were both killed in a head-on crash early Sunday morning, July 6, on I-495 in Fairfax County, according to state police.
Investigators said the crash happened shortly after 2:30 a.m. in the northbound Express Lanes near mile marker 48.

A Virginia man is facing serious charges after he allegedly pulled a gun during two separate road rage incidents in Maryland—firing at least one shot, according to state police.
Perry Ellis Barmore, 34, of Alexandria, was arrested in Virginia last week, after a joint operation by Maryland State Police and the US Marshals Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force.
