Federal immigration officials have lodged detainers against MS-13 gang members charged in the brutal murder of a 14-year-old Maryland boy whose remains were found months later in a wooded park.
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced on Thursday, Jan. 22, that detainers were placed on Alam Josai Garcia Padilla, Jose Vladimir Merlos-Majano, and William Ariel Cuellar Gutierrez, all charged in the killing of Jefferson Amaya-Ayala, 14, of College Park.

A wanted man accused of opening fire on a victim in Maryland earlier this year has been captured, authorities said.
On Friday, Aug. 22, detectives with the Charles County Sheriff’s Office and the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force tracked down Earl Tyree Porter, 30, of Waldorf, in the 3000 block of Gallery Place, following a months-long investigation into a reported shooting.
Investigators said Porter was wanted in connection with an April 14 shooting on October Place, where a man was shot multiple times in the chest, but survived his injuries.

A man accused of fueling gun violence through illegal firearm sales was caught smuggling 67 pounds of marijuana at JFK Airport, authorities announced on Monday, March 17.
Ian Diaz-Reales, 27, of Reading, Pennsylvania, was arrested on March 2 while attempting to board an outbound flight with the massive drug stash, according to the Berks County District Attorney’s Office.
