At approximately 9:40 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7, officers were called to the 6300 block of Lincolnia Road to conduct a death investigation, where they found Myong Kim suffering from traumatic injuries to her upper body, police say.
Investigators say that detectives determined that John Kim, 39, fatally assaulted his mother and remained at the scene until officers arrived.
Both Kims are from Lincolnia.
John Kim was taken into custody and taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he was charged with second-degree murder.
He's being held without bond.
The investigation into the fatal incident is ongoing.
