Before settling into the Hudson Valley, Zak! previously spent time in the New York Daily News newsroom and worked for hyperlocal digital news outlets on Long Island. He wrote sports for The Ithacan and The Ithaca Journal before taking his talents to the Pacific Northwest, where he served as the sports editor at the Shoshone News-Press until heading back east to work with Daily Voice.

First Responders In Virginia, Maryland Rescue Kayakers Stranded On Island (Video) A Maryland State Police helicopter proved critical in rescuing a group of kayakers who became stranded in rough waters in the Potomac River on Sunday afternoon. Dump Truck Crash Temporarily Shuts Down Route 50 In Virginia: Police Route 50 was shut down for approximately an hour in Fairfax County on Monday morning when a dump truck driver crashed and took down some power lines. At around 6 a.m. on Oct. 7, officers were called to assist at the scene of a single-vehicle crash on the usually-busy roadway near Fair Ridge Drive in Fair Lakes. Prince George's County Police Officer Arrested For Vehicle Violation, Suspended: Officials An off-duty Prince George's County Police officer has been suspended without pay after being arrested last week, authorities announced on Monday morning. Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police Department charged Police Officer Sierra Alston with unauthorized use of a vehicle and related offenses, police say. Group Stranded On Island Rescued By Montgomery County Crews, State Police Helicopter First responders in Maryland came to the rescue of a group of swimmers who found themselves in a perilous position on Sunday afternoon, officials say.
