7-Eleven will pay $1.2 million after investigators say the chain illegally sold thousands of vapes and e-cigarettes near schools in the nation's capital. Attorney General Brian Schwalb announced on Tuesday, Sept. 9, that 7-Eleven will pay more than a million dollars to settle allegations that it violated DC’s ban on selling electronic smoking devices within a quarter mile of middle and high schools. Nicotine Poisonings Surge Among Babies, Young Kids: Study
Poisonings among young children have risen sharply as products like nicotine pouches and vaping liquids become more popular, according to a new study. US poison control centers received 134,663 reports of kids six years old and younger ingesting nicotine from 2010 through 2023, according to the study published by the American Academy of Pediatrics on Monday, July 14. In a shorter timeframe, the researchers found that nicotine poisonings rose by more than 760% from 2020 to 2023. An Alexandria woman teaching at a Falls Church High School has been accused of selling vape cartridges loaded with nicotine and THC to her own students, police said. Detectives with the Major Crimes Bureau’s Child Abuse Squad arrested Kaitlyn Cresent, 28, on Monday, Dec. 30, following a two-month investigation, according to Fairfax County police.
