Police have identified the motorcyclist killed in a crash involving a Virginia Department of Transportation vehicle on I-95 earlier this week. Victor M. Harper II, 30, of Dumfries, was heading north when he lost control and ran off the right side of the highway around 4:40 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, Virginia State Police said. Harper struck a VDOT Safety Service Patrol vehicle that was stopped in the shoulder with its lights activated at the 155 mile marker in Prince William County. Virginia State Police are investigating reports of shots fired on I-66 on Monday morning. Shortly after 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 25, Virginia State Police troopers were called to investigate a shooting on the interstate near the Prince William and Fairfax County line. According to police, a Dodge Charger was heading west on I-66 near mile marker 47 when one of its windows was struck by a bullet, though the driver escaped any injury and was able to pull to the side and call 911. Driver Found Dead In Car 3.5 Hours After Virginia Crash: State Police
A 35-year-old driver was found dead in a vehicle hours after crashing it Monday, Sept. 11, police said. Ricky L. Shell, of Alton, was behind the wheel of a Kia Spectra when he failed to maneuver a curve on Route 11 (Lee Highway) in Rappahannock County, Virginia State Police Sgt. Brent Coffey said. Thirteen people died in 10 traffic crashes over Labor Day weekend in Virginia, and five of the accidents involved motorcycles, State Police said. Police have identified the victim and suspected killer in a Culpeper County hostage situation that began Tuesday, Sept. 6. Harrison L. Police have identified the 35-year-old motorcyclist killed in a crash on Interstate 66 over the weekend. Cody P. Riley, 36, of Owens Cross Roads, AL, was riding east at an excessive rate of speed on a 2018 Yamaha FZ09, when he lost control around 8:25 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, Virginia State Police said. Riley was thrown from the vehicle in the express lanes at the 60 mile marker. His bike came to rest on the left shoulder. Authorities have released details in an I-66 shooting that ended in the arrest of a 24-year-old Alexandria man. Daniel L. Serrano was heading east on the highway in Fairfax County around 1:10 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, when the male driver of a black Honda sedan threw an object at Serrano's car, Virginia State Police said. Serrano in return fired several rounds at the other vehicle, authorities said. Both vehicles pulled over to the side of the interstate near the 50 mile marker. A shooting between vehicles on Interstate 66 sent one person to the hospital on Tuesday, Aug. 22 in Fairfax County, Virginia State Police said. Gunfire broke out between two Honda sedans on the eastbound side around 1:10 p.m. Both vehicles pulled over to the side of the interstate near the 50 mile marker. The shooting suspect remained at the scene and was taken into custody by state police without incident. Interesting Twist Revealed In I-66 Fatal Pedestrian Crash
A strange twist has been revealed in a fatal pedestrian crash on I-66. A 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis was heading west near Exit 6 when it encountered a pedestrian lying in the roadway just before 5:45 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, Virginia State Police said. The Mercury was unable to avoid hitting the pedestrian, later identified as Robert L. Makie, of Stephens City. Police have released the mugshot of a man who they say led a police pursuit in a stolen ambulance and hitting several cars in the process over the weekend in Arlington. Darell T. Caldwell, 30, of Brandywine, MD, is facing federal charges after switching from a pickup truck to an ambulance in leading a pursuit and crashing multiple times along I-395 in Arlington, authorities said.
