Support is surging for the family of Tommy Alvarado, a 22-year-old driver killed in a Virginia crash earlier this month. Tommy died after losing control of his vehicle on Lake Jackson Drive in Manassas on Oct. 15, police previously said. He leaves behind his fiancé, Linda Tran, and two children, Mila Ana Alvarado and Matias Alexys Alvarado, who according to his obituary were "the light of his life." Repeat DUI Driver Scratches Police Officer In Virginia: Cops
A repeat drunken driver scratched a police officer who suspected she may have been under the influence over the weekend in Virginia. Tannia Isela Orellana, 54, of Manassas, was stopped by an officer on the 11700 block of Sudley Manor Drive around 1:05 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, Prince William County police said. When officers tried to detain Orellana, she actively resisted and scratched an officer multiple times, police said. Man Accused Of Sexually Abusing Teen Housemate In Virginia: Police
A 36-year-old man is accused of assaulting a teen housemate for nearly two years, authorities in Prince William County said. Melvin Anthony Castaneda Casoverde inappropriately touched the victim, who was less than 15 years old, between January 2022 and October 2023 in their shared Manassas home, county police said. The victim recently reported the incidents to a school counselor who contacted the police. An overturned crane truck has closed a Manassas intersection Thursday morning, Oct. 19. Sudley Road near Gum Springs Road was closed in both directions indefinitely as of 9:30 a.m., police said. Jonathan Larry Ellington, 50, of Manassas, was arrested in connection with an Oct. 3 incident at a smoke shop, county police said. Police have identified the 22-year-old driver killed in a weekend Prince William County crash. Tommy Alexys Alvarado heading north on Lake Jackson Drive in Manassas at a high rate of speed in a 2005 Honda Civic when he lost control and left the roadway just before 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 15, county police said. Alvarado's vehicle struck a tree at Blandsford Drive and he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. No other occupants were in the vehicle. A 31-year-old woman has been arrested for slashing a loss prevention officer before stealing items from Macy's in Manassas, police said. Valerie Rene Polovitch, of Manassas, was spotted taking items from shelves and placing them into a bag, then walking toward the exit on Aug. 25, at the Manassas Mall, county police said. A 40-year-old Virginia man was arrested for sexually assaulting a child, authorities said. Gerver Sipriano Rivera Avila allegedly went into a room where children were playing in a Manassas home on April 16 during a party, and sexually touched the child, under 13 years old, Prince William County police said. Rivera Avila "inappropriately touched the victim more than one time before leaving the room," police said in a release. The victim immediately told a family member, who told police, authorities said. A lengthy investigation into the years-long sexual assault of a child led police in Prince William County to arrest a now 21-year-old Woodbridge man, authorities announced on Wednesday.
