A 14-year-old was shot on Tuesday night while standing outside a popular Annandale business, according to a Fairfax County Police Department spokesperson. Shortly before 8 p.m. on Jan. 16, officers from the Fairfax County Police Department were called to the 6500 block of Little River Turnpike, where there was a report of a minor who had been shot outside of Tropical Smoothie Cafe. Police say that an Annandale man has died at a Virginia hospital nearly a month after being involved in a crash with a drunk driver in Fairfax County. Bayron Hernandez Castellanos, 27 died following a crash last month with an allegedly intoxicated family member who failed to negotiate a U-turn while behind the wheel in Annandale. Fairfax County Detectives Have Solved 'Christmas Tree Lady' Case 25 Years Later
For 25 years, Fairfax County police have not given up on solving one of the department's more perplexing cases. Now they have an answer. The Fairfax County Police Department announced on Thursday, July 7, that cold case detectives identified the woman who they have been calling "The Christmas Tree Lady" since they found her body on Dec. 18, 1996. Her name is Joyce Meyer. She was 69 years old when she died. Police found Meyer's body at the Pleasant Valley Memorial Park on Little River Turnpike in Annandale a week before Christmas.
