Air Quality Quickly Worsening As Wildfire Smoke Returns
Another wave of Canadian wildfire smoke is making its way to the East Coast — and things were already not looking great as of Wednesday, June 28. Air quality index (AQI) values were in the triple digits in Philadelphia, Washington DC, and Baltimore as of Wednesday afternoon, AccuWeather says citing Plume Labs (see map above). Storms With Possibility Of Isolated Tornadoes To Threaten East Coast
Severe storms with the possibility of isolated tornadoes will be threatening the East Coast Monday, June 26, and will be followed by at least two more days of stormy weather, meteorologists say. Damaging winds, flash flooding, and hail are all possible by late in the afternoon Monday, forecasters are predicting. Separate Rounds Of Thunderstorms Take Aim On Region
Bouts of rain showers and thunderstorms heading to the region are expected to make up for the abnormally-dry end of spring and start to summer. There will be scattered showers throughout the day on Thursday, June 22, which will be cooler with a high temperature in the mid-60s, according to the National Weather Service. Air Quality Expected To Reach Danger Zones Along East Coast
Smoke from Canadian wildfires continue to travel south down the East Coast, and residents along the East Coast are starting to feel the impact. NASA Rocket Launch Will Be Visible In Virginia
A small rocket expected to lift off form the NASA Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia will be visible across the East Coast Tuesday, April 25. The Terrier-Improved Malemute sounding rocket carrying the SubTEC-9 is set to launch between 7:15 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 25. See map above for where and how long the rocket will be visible. The mission is to test new technology projects being developed by the NASA Sounding Rockets Program Office. The launch was initially set for Monday, April 24, but was scrubbed due to issues with payload instrumentation.

A NASA rocket set to launch early Monday, Nov. 7 will be visible along the East Coast. The Northrop Grumman’s Antares rocket and Cygnus cargo spacecraft had initially been set to launch Sunday, Nov. 6, but were postponed due to a fire alarm at Northrop Grumman’s Cygnus spacecraft control center in Dulles, VA. A tropical rainstorm developing off the East Coast will put a damper on the region's second half of the weekend.
