According to officials, an environmental assessment was completed over the weekend in advance of the removal of the monument, and now they are ready to move ahead as the country continues to remove Confederate symbolism from military facilities. Addison Cadang, a US Army soldier, died while stationed in Fort Liberty, NC on Sept. 21. He would have turned 22 on Oct. 8, his obituary says. The Confederate Memorial is scheduled to be removed from Section 16 of the Arlington National Cemetery after nearly 110 years, at the request of Congress and implemented by the Secretary of Defense.
