It happened Monday morning, March 24, just before 10 a.m. on Linton Hall Road near Glenkirk Road in Gainesville, according to the Prince William County Police Department.

Investigators said the 2019 Toyota Highlander was heading north when it suddenly veered into the southbound lanes, slammed into a guardrail, then launched off the road.

As it flew down an embankment, the SUV rolled and finally came to rest on its side in a grassy field.

The driver — identified as Marat Lise Essex, 52, of Bristow — was the only person in the vehicle. She was rushed to a local hospital where she later died from her injuries.

Crash investigators are asking anyone who may have seen what happened to contact police. The investigation is ongoing.
