Speed and possible impairment are believed to be a factor in a fatal crash that led to the death of Nokesville native Edward Wayne Mudd, Jr., who died from his injuries on Thursday, Nov. 30.

At around 7:50 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 25, officers from the Prince William County Police Department were called to the 5300 block of Davis Ford Road in Woodbridge to investigate a single-car crash involving a 1994 Honda Civic.

According to the department, Mudd was speeding along the roadway driving westbound when he lost control, crossed over into the opposite lanes and went off the roadway, crashing into a tree and coming to rest.

No other vehicles were involved. It's unclear what caused the crash.

Police say that Mudd was not wearing a seatbelt when he struck the tree.

He was rushed to an area hospital where he died from his injuries on Thursday. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing in Prince William County.
