Jeffrey Donelle Hampton surrendered to authorities on Wednesday, Sept. 27, Prince William County police said. He's charged with murder and various weapons offenses in the May 21 killing of Michael Hawkins III.

A $10,000 reward was being offered in Hampton's arrest.

Hampton is believed to have exchanged gunfire with Hawkins during an argument outside of the 15000 block of Lost Canyon Court in Woodbridge around 2:45 p.m. Sunday, May 21, PWC police said.

Hawkins was struck in the lower body and Hampton fled the scene, authorities said.

Hawkins' sister, Tiarra, remembered him as a fighter as he endured more than eight hours of surgery, loved ones tell Daily Voice.

Hampton was being held without bond.
