Miles Jonathan Moore, 53, was struck and killed while crossing Richmond Highway near Easy Street around 9 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20 in Woodbridge, according to the Prince William County Police Department.
Investigators say he was hit by two vehicles — one of which fled the scene.
The first driver, operating a Toyota Highlander, stayed and cooperated with police. The second driver — believed to have been behind the wheel of a dark-colored 2018–2025 Toyota Camry with front-end damage — has not been identified.
Moore was rushed to the hospital, but died from his injuries.
Now, his family has launched a GoFundMe titled “Help Bring Miles Moore Home for Final Farewell,” hoping to transport his body from Virginia back to Worcester in Massachusetts, where he was a beloved figure.
“Miles was a beacon of love, kindness, and charisma,” wrote organizer Nerissa Harper-Ketter. “He was considered one of Worcester’s local legends. Affectionately known as ‘Uncle Miles,’ he touched countless lives with his warm spirit.”
Moore was known for mentoring young people in the community and always being there for anyone in need, loved ones said. His family is asking for help to cover transportation, funeral costs, and travel expenses so his loved ones in Virginia can attend the services.
“Miles treated his community like family,” the fundraiser reads. “Now, we ask for your generosity to honor his life and legacy.”
As of Thursday, the GoFundMe had raised more than $3,000 of its $10,000 goal.
"Miles came from a large, loving family spanning Worcester, MA, to Gastonia, NC," organizers wrote.
"As we grieve this sudden tragic loss, we are also facing the heartbreaking challenge of bringing him home after his body is released from the ongoing investigation."
Police are still investigating and asking anyone with information about the crash or the hit-and-run driver to contact the Crash Investigation Unit at 703-792-5127.
"Rest in Heaven Miles," a loved one wrote on social media. "I'm sure any amount helps. Let's all get Miles back home where he can be put to rest.
"Growing up in Plumley he definitely was uncle Miles and always was smiling. If you can't donate share share share."
