Hamza Omar, 20, of Columbus, Ohio, has been arrested following a yearlong investigation into an alleged sexual assault that was reported in the Radnor / Ft. Myer Heights neighborhood in October 2023.
Members of the Arlington County Police Department were called early on Oct. 29, 2023 to the 1500 block of Clarendon Boulevard to probe a reported rape when a man broke into an area home, entered a woman's bedroom and threatened her.
It is alleged that he then raped her and fled on foot.
On Wednesday, Oct. 23, the department announced that Omar was identified as a suspect in the rape and he was arrested.
Police say that during the investigation, Omar was identified as a suspect, and a warrant was issued for his arrest in August.
He was tracked down in Ohio and taken into custody by the Columbus Division of Police, where he was held until being extradited back to Virginia.
Omar was charged with:
- Rape;
- Abduction with the intent to defile;
- Robbery;
- Burglary with the intent to commit rape;
- Wearing a mask in public.
He's being held at the Arlington County Detention Facility without bond.
The incident remains under investigation.
