Teenager Attempted To Abduct, Defile 21-Year-Old Woman In Virginia, Police Say

An underage suspect is facing serious charges after being thwarted while attempting to abduct a woman on Sunday afternoon in Woodbridge, police say.

A 16-year-old was taken into custody shortly after noon on Nov. 10 in the area of Blackburn Road and Delaware Drive following an investigation into an abduction and assault in the area.

Investigators from the Prince William County Police Department say that a 21-year-old woman was walking in the area when the teen - who has not been identified due to his age - followed her, then grabbed her from behind and attempted to drag her into a nearby wooded area.

According to police, during the assault, a passing motorist was able to stop and assist, allowing the two to separate. A nearby officer was flagged down and the 16-year-old was quickly taken into custody.

Only minor injuries were reported.

The 16-year-old Woodbridge native was charged with: 

  • Abduction with intent to defile;
  • Attempted rape;
  • Assault and battery;
  • Public intoxication.

Police said on Monday that the teen was held at the Juvenile Detention Center and his court date was pending.
