Deputies with the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 43000 block of Central Station Drive in Ashburn around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, after receiving reports of an attempted child abduction, officials said.

Investigators determined that Shane Paul Bergeron, 34, of Jefferson, Georgia, forcibly grabbed the toddler inside the restaurant. Before he could flee, the child’s mother intervened and got her child back safely.

Deputies identified Bergeron as the suspect and tracked him to a nearby hotel, where he was taken into custody without further incident, authorities said.

Bergeron has been charged with abduction by force and is being held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.

The investigation is ongoing, and officials are asking anyone with information to contact the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.
