Another sell-or-be-banned TikTok legislation is working its way up to the Senate. The House passed the sell-or-be-banned bill for the app (360-58) on Saturday, April 20 as part of a larger foreign aid package for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, giving Chinese TikTok owner ByteDance up to a year to sell the app. Otherwise, TikTok will be subject to a nationwide ban. The Alexandria resident spent time in the US Peace Corps volunteering in Ukraine, and served in several capacities with the Capital Area Food Bank, and later became the Executive Director of the Chance for Life Foundation, her obituary says. A former foster mom to a little girl, Maria had recently completed a sabbatical working with at-risk youth in Colorado, her obit says. Two people died on August 5 and two are still recovering from injuries after they were all allegedly struck by lightning in D.C., NBC Washington reported. Two women and two men were hurt from a lightning strike in their immediate vicinity near Lafayette Square on August 4, reports said.
