Some riders had to deal with lengthy delays after a trespasser was struck by a train at a Northwest DC Metro station, officials confirmed. A crash on I-95 caused five miles of backups Tuesday morning, April 23. The crash happened at mile marker 177.9 on the southbound side along the Woodrow Wilson Bridge in Fairfax County just outside of Alexandria, according to the VDOT site. As of 9:15 a.m., the south left shoulder, left lane, and center lane are closed.

Traffic was backed up for nearly two miles due to a crash on I-66 Monday afternoon, April 22 in Fairfax County. The multi-vehicle crash happened at milepost 64.4 in Merrifield, the VDOT site says. As of 1:20 p.m. two miles of delays were being reported with the east right center lane, right lane, and right shoulder closed.

A multi-vehicle crash closed a portion of I-695 in Washington DC. According to MATOC, the westbound lanes were closed at I-395 southbound (Third Street Tunnel SW) around 1 p.m. on Monday, April 22. A pedestrian was hospitalized in serious condition after being struck by a tractor trailer on Interstate 95 in Virginia Monday morning, April 1, police said. The victim was a driver who had been standing outside of their disabled vehicle around 8:45 a.m. on the southbound side, Virginia State Police said. According to the VDOT, the crash happened in Triangle. Backups were approximately 10 miles long. The striking vehicle remained on scene while the victim was taken to Mary Washington Hospital, and later flown to the VCU Medical Center in Richmond.
