With thefts of catalytic converters out of vehicles spiking across the country as thieves look to make a quick buck - or thousand bucks - a police agency in Virginia has come up with a unique way to help slow them down and curtail the thievery. This weekend in Prince William County, G&C Tire & Auto Service will be providing free catalytic converter etching for residents who bring their vehicles to their shop on Pump Station Way in Manassas. $550M Sought From Thieves In Federal Catalytic Converter Crackdown
Catalytic converter thieves across the US could soon have to cough up $550 million as part of a federal, state and local crackdown on the thefts and resales that turned a massive profit, authorities announced. The Department of Justice announced on Wednesday, Nov. 2 that it will be seeking forfeiture from those responsible for the trend of vehicle parts being stolen and resold for massive profits. Quick-Thinking Officer Foils Would-Be Thieves in Fredericksburg: Police
An officer trusted his instincts last week and caught three suspected thieves red-handed, authorities said. Officer T. Norman had parked along Emancipation Highway across the street from Stratford Square Apartment Complex to complete some paperwork around 2 a.m., Fredericksburg police said. There were two Toyota Priuses parked side-by-side at the apartments. The city has seen a rash of catalytic converter thefts from that make of car, so Norman took note.
