New Year, Newly Minted Millionaires: Virginia Lottery Announces Winners Of Annual Raffle
Some lucky Virginia Lottery players rang in the new year with a bang, and are the state's newest millionaires.
Each year, winning numbers are drawn in Virginia's New Year's Millionaire Raffle with five tickets worth a seven-figure prize, and an additional seven worth $100,000.

Virginia Barn Blaze Rages Overnight, Threatens Nearby Woods: Fire Officials
Firefighters in Loudoun County had their hands full early Tuesday morning, battling a raging barn fire that spread to nearby woods in Leesburg.
The blaze was reported just before 2 a.m. in the 43300 block of Spinks Ferry Road. Crews from Lucketts, Leesburg, Lovettsville, Lansdowne, Ashburn, and Frederick County, arrived to find a 40-by-40-foot pole barn fully engulfed in flames, Loudoun County Fire and Rescue officials said.
Flames had already spread to an adjacent wooded area, forcing crews to launch an aggressive exterior attack on both the structure and the wildfire.

Brian Bencic of Loudoun County died unexpectedly on March 11, 2024, according to his obituary on the Loudoun Funeral Chapel website. He was 60 years old.
Brian's LinkedIn page says he attended James Madison University, and had more than 20 years of experience in enterprise software sales, having worked for federal clients.
Brian, of Ashburn, is survived by his wife of 27 years, Lisa Bencic; daughters, Alexandra Bencic and Sydney Bencic, father, Anthony Bencic, sister Stephani Balliet, and several nieces and nephews.

Speeding Driver Charged In Crash That Killed 27-Year-Old Engineer In Fairfax County
Charges have been filed against a 53-year-old driver who was speeding before a crash that killed a 27-year-old motorcyclist in Fairfax County, police said.
Gael Cruchet, 53, of Ashburn was driving the 2016 Acura TLX well above the posted speed limit when they struck Zafeer Piracha, of Lorton, on Rt. 28 in Centreville on Friday, Nov. 27, police said.
Piracha was ejected from the bike and pronounced dead at the scene.
