Fairfax County resident Lloyd South died from injuries sustained in a crash on Saturday, Sept. 23 on Ox Road in West Springfield, according to officials.

Police say that South was driving east from Ox Road in a Nissan Frontier at around 9:40 a.m. on Saturday morning when he blew through a stop sign and was struck by another driver.

South's Nissan was hit by a Volvo, which was sent cascading into a highway sign in the median before coming to rest after striking a guardrail.

The driver and passengers in the Volvo were treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries, while South was rushed to the hospital and died on Sunday, according to officials.

This is the 12th non-pedestrian-related crash in Fairfax County in 2023. Neither speed, nor alcohol are believed to be a factor in the fatal incident.
