'Sharp Mind:' UVA Med Student, Northern VA Native Anna Diederich Dies, 24
Anna Diederich, a medical student at the University of Virginia, died on Oct. 9, after suffering a medical emergency, her obituary says. She was 24 years old.
Anna was born in Alexandria and went on to graduate magna cum laude from the University of Notre Dame in 2021, with a degree in chemical engineering, according to her obituary on the Adams-Green Funeral Home website.
She worked at the Oakcrest School in Vienna, where she had graduated in 2017, as a class dean, cross country coach, and math teacher.
Anna was in her first year of medical school at the University of Virginia.

Francisco 'Yogi' Somarriba Of Fredericksburg Dies On 50th Birthday
Francisco Somarriba, of Fredericksburg, died on Wednesday, Oct. 4 — his 50th birthday.
A GoFundMe page launched for his children, 22 and 24, says Francisco was affectionately known as Yogi, and will be remembered for his "charisma, generosity, kindness, cooking skills and easy going [demeanor]."
"Today was his 50th birthday and the day that God has called him to return home."
Visitation will be held on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 11 a.m., at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service in Fredericksburg. A celebration of life will follow.

Former VA Football Captain, Paratrooper Addison Cadang Dies Days Before 22nd Birthday
A paratrooper in the US Army, former standout football player, and associate member of a Virginia fire department, Addison Cadang, died days before turning 22.
Addison Cadang, a US Army soldier, died while stationed in Fort Liberty, NC on Sept. 21. He would have turned 22 on Oct. 8, his obituary says.
A spokesperson for the 82nd Airborne Division, where Cadang was assigned, said that he died of injuries suffered in a vehicle crash in Fort Liberty.

Cousins Killed In Double Maryland Shooting Remembered As 'Incredible Fathers'
Support is swelling for the family of two cousins who were gunned down in a double fatal Oxon Hill shooting in Prince George's County.
Charles Oxley, 28, of Oxon Hill, and Washington, DC resident Lamont Oxley, 30, have been identified by police as the victims who were gunned down on Sunday, Sept. 10.
The shooting was reported at approximately 11:10 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 10 in the 5500 block of Livingston Terrace.
Upon arrival, officers say that they pronounced Charles Oxley dead at the scene, while Lamont Oxley was rushed to an area hospital where he later died from his gunshot wounds.

Will died on Friday, Sept. 8, after a two-year battle with cancer, and was being remembered as an animal lover with a kind heart, according to his obituary.

Fairfax County's Nicholas Hoy Dies Week Before Marrying College Sweetheart
Support is on the rise for a bride-to-be who lost her Fairfax County husband a week before their wedding.
Nicholas Robert Hoy, of Vienna, died Sunday, Sept. 10, due to a medical emergency, according to his obituary and a GoFundMe page.
A GoFundMe for Nick's fiance, Haley Benetti, said the cause of death was an unexplained medical emergency. The campaign had raised more than $12,800 as of Thursday, Sept. 14.
Nick was a standout athlete growing up, having won the Northern Virginia Regional Championship in wrestling and played lacrosse for the Virginia State Championship.
