Zsavon Walters, 29, has been charged in connection to the Oct. 4, 2023, hit-and-run after being apprehended by members of the US Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force on Thursday, Oct. 3.
According to police, at around 3 p.m. on the day of the hit-and-run, Walters struck a 15-year-old at the corner of Montgomery Street and North Patrick Street in a Penske truck, leaving him with non-life-threatening injuries, though the driver continued on to the rear of George Washington Middle School, nearly striking several children.
The School Resource Officer assigned to the building drew his weapon to protect the students from being harmed and to stop Walters from heading toward the children, prompting him to drive off.
No other injuries were reported at the time.
Responding officers and the SRO attempted to pursue the Penske truck, but Walters was able to get away. The truck was later located at the Eisenhower Connector, and the investigation into the hit-and-run continued until Walters was arrested last week.
Walters was charged with malicious wounding, as well as hit-and-run with personal injuries.
The incident remains under investigation.
