Baseball Bat Attack At VA Congressman's Office Sends Staffers To Hospital, Suspect Captured

A 49-year-old man has been charged with assaulting two members of Virginia Congressman Gerry Connolly's staff with a metal bat, sending them to the hospital Monday, May 15, authorities said.

Xuan Kha Tran Pham of Fairfax, entered the Congressman's office at 10680 Main St., Monday, May 15 around 10:50 a.m., and began assaulting the employees, according to the US Capitol Police.

The employees were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Connolly, who was not in the office at the time, released the following statement:

Pham was charged with one count of Aggravated Malicious Wounding and one count of Malicious Wounding. His motivation was unclear, according to USCP.

Connolly (D-VA) is in his eighth term serving the U.S. House of Representatives in Virginia's 11th District. He previously served 14 years on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, including five as chairman.
