Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii will open its newest location in Arlington on Tuesday, Feb. 25. The shop will be located at 3701 North Fairfax Drive, about a block away from Quincy Park.
Known for its premium Hawaiian coffee and island-inspired menu, the new shop will be the second location for local entrepreneurs Michelle and Richard Lee, who first launched in Alexandria. Their first shop quickly gained a following, and now, they're bringing another dose of Kona-grown caffeine to Northern Virginia.
The Lees, both first-generation immigrants — Michelle from Korea and Richard from China — say their journey as franchise owners reflects their pursuit of the American dream.
"Bad Ass Coffee's cold brew holds a special place for me—it's remarkably smooth and refreshing, setting it apart in the coffee world," said Michelle. "From our successful first location to now, this product remains a core differentiator, embodying our dedication to quality and customer satisfaction. I'm passionate about spreading the word on a coffee experience that not only delights, but also reflects our commitment to excellence."
The Arlington café will feature handcrafted coffee drinks, signature lattes, cold brews, and teas, alongside a food menu with a Hawaiian twist. Customers can take home Hawaiian blends, including 100 percent Kona, plus single-origin beans, pods, and flavored coffees.
CEO Scott Snyder praised the Lees for their rapid growth.
"Building on that success with the opening of their second store in Arlington, VA is a true testament to the couple’s dedication to executing our systems with perfection while modeling and sharing "aloha" in the community they serve," Snyder said. "I speak for the entire Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii 'ohana when I say how extremely proud we are of the Lees and to witness this next major accomplishment in their franchise journey.”
To celebrate the grand opening, Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii will hold a two-day event in the weeks after launch, featuring giveaways, games, and a charity partnership.
Founded on Hawaii's "Big Island" in 1989, the chain has about 30 locations on the mainland US. Most are in the South and West, but a shop in Hackensack, New Jersey, joins the two Virginia spots as mid-Atlantic locations.
The Arlington shop will be open Mondays through Fridays from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sundays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
