A Jeep driver who struck a tow truck responding to a three-car crash on I-66 caused a second three car crash and died in Fairfax County, authorities said. The tow truck was responding to a crash at mile marker 51 in the westbound lanes just after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, when it was struck by the Jeep, Virginia State Police said. The Jeep Compass SUV rear-ended the tow truck near Exit 62 for Nutley Street in Vienna, as the truck slowed to a stop, police said. A 22-year-old man died in a head-on crash in Rockhingham County on Christmas, Virginia State Police said. Garcia F. Hernandez was heading north on Route 11 (N. Valley Pike) in a 2015 Subaru Legacy when he crossed over the center line and struck a 2004 GMC Envoy head-on around 12:10 p.m. Monday, Dec. 25, VSP Sgt. Brent Coffey said. Traffic was tied up for miles on I-495 in Prince George's County on Friday afternoon when a moped rider was killed after crashing into a tractor-trailer. With travelers hitting the road for the long Labor Day Weekend, traffic came to a half in the southbound lanes of the interstate near MD Route 295 as Maryland State Police investigated the fatal crash. Speed, Alcohol Factors In Virginia Crash That Killed 22-Year-Old Driver: Cops
Police have identified the driver killed in a Loudoun County crash this week. Angel Perez, 22, of Manssas, was behind the wheel of a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta heading south on Bull Run Post Office Road in Chantilly, around 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said.
