1,000+ Tickets, Warnings Issued In Fcpd's Campaign To Bust Speeders
Speeder, speeder, more than 1,000 ticket receivers.
Fairfax County police have shared the results of their "50 Means 50" campaign.
The campaign, designed to slow down speeding drivers, reduce crashes, change driving behavior and increase overall safety on the Fairfax County Parkway, ran from May 8 to May 12.
Overall, more than 1,000 tickets and warnings were issued to reckless drivers, speeders, and those who had hands-free and licensing violations.
"Through this campaign, officers issued 890 traffic summonses, and 163 warning tickets totaling 1,053 observed violations," FCPD said.

Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office IDs Speeding Driver Killed After Crashing Into Tree In Virginia
One man has died after speeding while driving through Virginia, losing control, and crashing his truck the night before Thanksgiving, authorities announced on Monday, Nov. 28.
David Allen Starkey, 55, of Orange, was driving in Spotsylvania shortly after 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 23, in the 9300 block of Plank Road when he reportedly crashed his 2019 Chevy Silverado, according to a spokesperson from the sheriff's office.
Officials say that first responders were at the scene within minutes, and upon arrival found the truck with "significant damage."

A federal jury has convicted a speeding driver on multiple charges after he struck a motorcyclist at more than 100 mph in Virginia, resulting in an amputation for a 20-year-old man.
Menyelek M. Maynard, 26, was found guilty of assault resulting in serious bodily injury, reckless driving, and speeding on Wednesday, Oct. 26, following a near-fatal crash on the George Washington Memorial Parkway.

Couple Killed In Fairfax Crash Involving Speed, Alcohol: Police
A couple from Prince William County was killed in an early morning crash in Fairfax County on Friday, Oct. 7, police said.
At around 4 a.m., 51-year-old Lori Byars, the driver of a Mercedes, and 59-year-old David Turch, the passenger, were heading east on Leesburg Pike, when their car veered off the road, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.
The car slammed into a light pole and then hit a traffic sign, before coming to a complete stop, officials reported.
When officers arrived at the scene, both Byars and Turch were pronounced dead, authorities said.

Fairfax Driver Who Fled Scene Of Single-Car Fatal Crash, Arrested: Police
Police have arrested a driver who fled the scene of a fatal single-vehicle crash in Fairfax, officials said. Just before midnight on August 7, officers reported to a crash on Dranesville Road and found the passenger of a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze dead inside the car, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.
The victim was identified as Alexis Arontico, 27, and witnesses told police that they saw the driver run from the scene shortly after the crash, officials said.
